Cappuccino Trio Turn Into A Quintet
It’s been ahwile since we last saw Cappuccino and not only did they turn up with Chris on guitar and John with drums they also came with two completely new sets of classic cover songs into which they had evidently put a lot of work and effort.
Apparently there was a set list however I understood they strayed from that very early on therefore I can’t give you a run down of what they actually played but I do remember their final number was a great Chuck Berry medley starting with “Roll Over Beethoven” into “Johnny B. Goode” and finishing with “Go Johnny”. Question…Why does no one ever do “Bye Bye Johnny”?
The band seemed to really enjoy themselves and certainly the Kings’ customers did since I don’t think I’ve seen so many people/couples all dancing all the way down the bar at the same time for ages. Compliments as always for their excellent sound which was engineered by Balding Bloke. I have no doubt Cappuccino will be back again, what do you reckon, Xmas time?
Er…we did do Bye Bye Johny…its a refrain at the end of the medley. ” I said…Bye Bye Johny Bye Bye….etc. Goobye Johny …hello, johny be Gooode”…(or something like that) by that time of the night and several Guiness it gets a bit foggy. Great night which we thoroughly enjoyed. Pity you missed the reggae version of Help…
Set list included eclectic takes on…we can work it out; you are the sunshine of my life; kiss me; stray cat strut; teenage kicks (demanded for encore);help (reggae dub!); saturday night at the movies; friday I’m in love; ticket to ride; these boots are made for walking; shang-a-lang. 2nd set.. with Chris on bass and Steve on lead guitar; bonie moronie; ain’t no sunshine; little wing; you do something to me; need your love so bad. Chris back on lead & Steve on bass for… Venus; hang on sloopy; day tripper; she’s not there; shakin all over; stuck in the middle with you; save the last dance for me; mustang sally and the medley. Stay awake at the back, there!
Oh yes… the medley actually includes… light my fire into get back into roll over beethoven into johnny b goode…winds down to a near stop.. finishes with slow sleazy bye bye johnny outro… sometimes I wonder why we bother!
Hi Chris
You bother because you care to correct my mistakes and when I forget my note pad:-)
Have you ever done the instrumental Johnny B. Blues nearly 19 mins instrumental track “Concerto in B. Goode”?
Now that would be interesting!
