Stolen Fridays Found On A Saturday In The Kings

December 8th, 2010 editor No comments

Alas dear reader, I did not make it to The Kings thanks to the snow, I twisted my hip and jarred my shoulder on some very frozen ice! More’s the pity since I had been looking forward to Stolen Fridays since they do have a very good pedigree and I had heard some good reports about them therefore I shall report on hearsay!

From the blokes…yep, very good but in general they would have liked it a bit heavier but they were impressed however from the women…excellent, superb, very, very good and you don’t know what you missed…thanks:-)

I’m assuming they played their current set list which includes Gimmie Some Lovin’, I gotta Feelin, Hot N Cold, Bohemian Like You, Cant Get Enough, Stuck In The Middle With You, Always The Last To Know, Dakota, Roll With It, Ruby, Ashes, Run, Rule The World, Affirmation, Let Me Entertain you, Sit Down, Town Called Malice, The Whole Of The Moon, Had Enough, Shine, Walk Of Life, Does Your Mother Know, La Bamba, Twist & Shout, Crocodile Rock, Centrefold, Mustang Sally, Rockin All Over The World, Disco 2000, Timewarp, Rock Medley, Angels, Yellow, Use Somebody and Dont You (Forget About Me)…that’s a fairly comprehensive and broad selection of covers and I’m told that the Take That songs were very well performed.

No doubt we shall be seeing them again, I’ll just have to wait.

Classic Gin House Rock N Blues

December 2nd, 2010 editor No comments

It was easily the quietest night of the year as the snow decided the end of November would be a good time to start the winter!

It’s always a pleasure to see Gin House at The Kings, they’re great musicians and always select a great variety of classic rock and blues numbers from Robert Johnson, Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, Rory Galagher, Freddie King, Stevie Ray Vaughan and a first-timer, and I was very surprised since he’s one of my favourite musicians, the superb but not so well known US bluesman, Tommy Castro.

Naturally, with the weather being so bad, they didn’t want to hang around for too long nevertheless the faithful crowd fully appreciated their efforts and we even had a couple of encores. Thanks guys and we’ll see you again on Saturday March 19th…now I just wonder how long this snow will last?
