Joker Blows Away The Cobwebs At Their Halloween Ball
Not that there are many cobwebs left these days after the huge refurbishment at The Kings…So just what does one get with this phenomenal young Scunthorpe band who decorated The Kings like York dungeons?
Two sets over 3 hours with 25 great covers, a couple of encores, probably one of the most enthusiastic bands performing at present plus an absolutely glorious sound using a combination of their own and Balding Bloke’s kit, loadsa bass! They kicked off with “Talk Dirty To Me” followed by “Breaking The Law”, “Bad Case Of Loving You” and into “Paranoid”, “Smoke On The Water” preceded “Tenage Kicks” then “Rebel Yell”, “Hard To Handle”, “You Really Got Me and then one of my favourites, “Lil’ Devil”, “Tush” and “Whiskey In The Jar” brought us to the end of the first set with the local track “Saturday Night’s Alright (For Fighting)”.
I don’t believe I’ve ever done a full night’s set listing before however it was such a fantastic night and so superbly performed that the band deserve it. The second set kicked off with “Born To Be Wild”, “Living After Midnight”, “All The Day And All Of The Night”, “Should I Stay Or Should I Go”, “20th Century Boy”, an interesting two song medley of “500 Miles” and “Wishing Well” followed by “Tie Your Mother Down”, “Hell Ain’t A Bad Place To Be”, Led Zeppelin’s “Rock N Roll”, “Sex On Fire”, a superb “Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door” with most people getting the chance to have a quick “Knock Knock”, “American Idiot” and into their final two songs a tremendous “Johnny B Goode” and terminating with a very, very long “Let’s Do The Time Warp Again” with the entire bar attempting it!
They thought they’d finished but they reckoned without their Kings fans demanding more, Sharon relented and back on they went with a repeat of The Kinks “You Really Got Me” and finally a song we hear very little but oh so well done, Tommy James and the Shondells’ “Mony Mony”, absolutely fantastic, what a great night to end a great Halloween Ball.
Undoubtedly Joker will be back, one date has already been booked the other has to be arranged.
