This is one of my favourite bands, classic rockabilly delivered with style and loads of enthusiasm. They have a HUGE set list of more than 40 songs covering the likes of Carl Perkins, Elvis Presley, Buddy Holly, Eddie Cochran, Chuck Berry, The Ventures and many, many more.
The Kings’ regulars also love this band as they set toes a tapping as the entire bar bops up and down to their hypnotic, albeit short, rythmic tunes and one of The Rockers best songs is the 1967 track “I Wan’na Be Like You” from the Jungle Book (“Now I’m the king of the swingers”). This always has the crowd shouting for more and The Rockers never fail but to provide.
As always when having such good fun it’s hard to believe that, apart from a short break, that they had been playing for more than 21/2 hours…ah well, until next time which is…when? I don’t know, keep an eye on the The Kings 2010 Calendar.
It’s been a couple of months or so since we last saw these guys therefore I was looking for and expecting an improvement from them since I feel that they could go far IF they get it right.
Certainly the enthusiasm is there and certainly the guitar playing is improving however vocalist Ali desperately needs to get some more vocal coaching and mic technique lessons since he is making it both hard work for himself and whomsoever is the soundman/person.
That’s not to say he is terrible, far, far from it, in fact his voice is very entertaining and their fans clearly enjoy their style of music and showmanship but they need to think long and hard about how to deliver a more quality and polished performance…the talent is there, get out the Brasso!
One thing you’re not going to get here is a track listing…the clue is in the band’s name, probably one of the best Jam tribute bands in the U.K. and from just down the road in Grimsby.
Despite the snow The Kings was absolutely chocker with many people out for the first day of their Xmas and New Year holidays and if you’re a Jam fan, then this was the place to be. These guys are very good at what they do, they’ve got all the moves and sounds off to near-perfection however their soundman kept suffering from quite a bit of feedback in the first set.
The second set started off the same however whatever the problem was he solved it and a thoroughly proficient “doppelgänger” Jam had The Kings totally entertained right until their final track from March 1980 (!!!) “Going Underground”. If it’s more Jam you want, let Sharon know:-)
It was probably one of the worst weather days of the year, just yucky and inevitably the town shops were very, very quiet subsequently there was no extra early evening passing trade to watch one of Louth’s “different” bands.
Cappuccino are alway good fun, they really enjoy their music and to get an idea of what they usually play you can read my last report here. This Thursday night was a bit different though in their second set since they used the hardy ones as a practice sounding board for stuff they had never before done publicly and for some songs they had never even practised…real wing it stuff which even had their soundman Balding Bloke looking a wee bit puzzled at times.
Let’s see if we can get the weather right for them next time!
Owing to work pressure I’m playing catch-up with blogs!
This band is always a joy to watch and listen to since they’re so competent and comfortable at what they do. The last time they appeared I wrote an extensive track list blog and it still holds true therefore there’s no point in repeating it so read it here.
At the moment Second Nature are not due to appear again until Saturday 8th May 2010.
