Ludensians love their soul music and it doesn’t come much better than this very talented and authentic-sounding band, consequently The Kings was absolutely heaving with dancers and revellers alike.
Written by Arthur Conley and Otis Redding, the 1967 huge hit of “Sweet Soul Music” is what this band is all about with fabulous vocals and some of the tightest instrument playing of any band. By now you’ve probably guessed that I like this band and, to be honest, what is there not to like when such classic songs are so expertly re-created? We could do with a couple of more bands similar to this therefore if you reckon you’re up to it please Contact Us.
If you want to see their extensive playlist then have a look here.
The Soul Solution will be back next year and hopefully for a very special weekend of Soul and Funk we’re trying to organise at the beginning of August. As always keep and eye on the What’s On calendar.
You just know you’re going to get a good night of rock n blues when these guys roll up and what seems to be happening a bit more often these days is them arriving with a guest guitarist. Last time it was Micky Broadbent on bass, this time dad made space for his son Jack to join in with the fun and what a great job he made of it.
They nearly gave resident sound engineer Balding Bloke a heart attack when they didn’t even bother with a sound check…wing it he did and what a glorious sound it was too as the very busy bar rocked through 21/2 hours worth of classic rock n blues covers, plus they even found the time for some of their own songs at the end of the night.
This band has two gig rules - enjoy yourself and no politics - and when music is this good what choice does anyone have but to enjoy? What was also very noticeable was the amount of younger people listening to “proper” music rather than much of the manufactured drivel some of the record companies subject us to these days, they also seem to be quite partial to The Kings’ real ales as well.
The band will be back on Saturday February 6th and will also be appearing at the inaugural LudaFest Rock N Blues Weekend at The Kings the first weekend of May 2010 when we hope the band may just be accompanied by some very special guest artistes.

BBC Children In Need Night At The Kings Head Louth
Girls will be boys and boys will be girls it’s a mixed up muddled up shook up world except for The King’s Head regulars…
Never have I seen so many mini skirts, legs, stockings, high heels and bouffant blondes on one night, and yes that was just the guys, the gals didn’t know which way to look as they danced around their handbags for hours on end as a resplendent, flourescent “Boy George” look-a-like conducted the evening’s festivities with classic songs such as YMCA, Time Warp, Dude Looks Like A Lady, I Want To Break Free, Man I feel Like A Woman, So Macho, Dancing Queen, Girls & Boys, No Woman No Cry, Fat Bottomed Girls, If I were A Boy, Whole Lotta Rose, Suicide Blonde, Squeeze Box, Who Are You and, of course, the superb 1970 song by Ray Davies of The Kinks…Lola!
I guess you’ve got the gist of the theme for the U.K.’s biggest charity fund raising event of the year, Children In Need. As of last night the event raised £20,309,747 by the end of the broadcast.
Congratulationss to all concerned for their efforts donated for the event.
This will have to be a brief post since I was not there therefore I’m going to have to wing it with hearsay!
Apparently it was one of the busiest nights of the year and I mssed it. Having seen Kandis before I know the quality of their musicianship and I’m told it was well up to their normal standard with a thoroughly diverse set of covers and, I believe, some of their own stuff.
A few people did mention to me that with it being so busy that those at the bay window end of the room couldn’t hear the band fully since their top speakers were set too low and quite a bit of this sound was absorbed by the crowd, an issue we normally do not have when bands use the in-house set-up of balding bloke’s, that apart I’m told it was an excellent night had by all…
Kandis are booked to appear again in 2010 including Sharon’s birthday party at the end of May, what more recommendation does one need?
After three sets and 31/2 hours of covers would their fans let them go? No, even the landlady insisted more and such is the popularity of Klout these days, even though it was approaching 1 a.m., until they had completed Kasabian’s excellent “Fire” for the second time did they finally allow the band the chance to pack up.
Klout are a very technically proficient band with loads of “pro” tricks up their sleeves as they motored through 40 classic tracks from bands such as Snow Patrol, Kaiser Chiefs, Oasis, The Jam, Simple Minds, Bryan Adams, Kings of Leon, Radiohead, The Killers and even U2 etc.
We know when we’re supposed to becoming to the end of the night when Elvis does his AC/DC “Whole Lotta Rosie” and the rock version of Britney Spears “Baby One More Time” however, as already written, their fans wouldn’t let them go, which must have put a bit of an extra strain on Keri’s voice still suffering from an infection a few weeks ago.
Who needs to travel miles when these guys (and gal) are on the doorstep willing to play their hearts out? Klout will be back for an almighty thrash on NEW YEAR’S EVE…see you there.
